Net Neutrality

In today’s high tech world, net neutrality is an important topic. The idea behind net neutrality is that content on the internet should be accessible and equal. The idea is that internet service providers should not be able to limit the types of content that its customers access once on the internet. Internet service providers would like to be able to regulate the types of sites that their customers go to. The idea is that would then be able to charge more for what they deem as premium internet content. Molly Wood, editor at CNET, says that Internet service providers would then be able to charge users for premium content like streaming Netflix or playing online games (CBS, 2010). In an article written for Home Media Magazine, even President Obama is quoted as being in favor of net neutrality. He states that, “An open Internet is essential to the American economy and increasingly to our very way of life,” (Gruenwedel & Latchem, 2014)

IT and Geo-Mapping Help a Small Business Succeed

This blog update is a discussion of the benefits of Geo-mapping and the example of The Tea Collection. The Tea Collection started as a small company that sells baby clothing. Today the company is expanding, and they rely on technology and IT resources to help them grow. Geo-mapping has been one of the most important tools for the company. Tim Watson, VP of sales for The Tea Collection, explains how he uses the technology to locate areas where new stores may be successful (Geo-Mapping Technologies Help Target Sales Prospects , 2009). Through the use of Geo-mapping, he can find areas with little competition, low market saturation and high potential for customers. In an article for Accountancy, Ian Foster explains that companies can use Geo-mapping for all sorts of business uses. He says, “how about generating a map to show, at a glance, where your 90-day debtors are? Or perhaps produce a topography showing peaks of where high sales levels are factored with good payers?” (Foster, 2007). With the technology of Geo-mapping becoming more readily available, the ability it possesses to enhance businesses is ever expanding.
